About this shrimp

Meet a busy algae eater from the Tails & Fin shrimp collection. Amano Algae Eater Shrimp spend their time exploring plants and decorations and picking at algae.

Is this right for me?

A choice for a tank that is already set up and cycled. Read the setup steps below before adding shrimp.

Getting your tank ready

Use an aquarium that has completed its cycle: helpful bacteria in the filter must be established to break down animal waste. A newly filled tank is not ready for animals just because the water looks clear. Provide hiding places and a secure lid because Amano shrimp can climb out. Offer suitable shrimp food as well as surfaces with algae to eat.

Keeping it with other animals

Choose peaceful fish and other animals. Raising baby Amano shrimp requires partly salty water and special care; they are not a simple breeding project in a freshwater tank.

What you get

Regular: approximately 0.5–1 inch. Large: approximately 1–1.5 inches. Choose the size and quantity offered in the product options.

A closer look

Amano shrimp (Caridina multidentata) can grow to approximately 2 inches. Their transparent appearance makes their constant search for food the main attraction.

Water details explained

Reference values from the product information: temperature 64–84°F; pH (acidity) 6.5–7.5; KH (buffering capacity, which helps keep pH steady) 0–10. These are reference values, not a reason to make sudden changes. Introduce shrimp gradually to the new tank's water.
